Dishwasher is akin to a robot that performs a multitude of chores on its own. All we have to do is to load the dishwasher with the dirty dishes and the detergent to clean them. Then the dishwasher takes care of the rest which includes filling the washer with water, heating the water, opening the detergent dispenser, letting the water through the jets to clean the dishes, draining the dirty water after cleaning, once again rinsing the dishes and finally drying the dishes with warm air if that option is selected by the user. Dishwasher has a timer of its own which regulates the length of every cycle. Further there are two sensors present in the device. One sensor monitors the temperature of the water and the air in order to prevent the damage on the dishes due to overheating. Another sensor detects the water level and automatically activates the draining function and prevents the overflowing in the dishwasher. Some sophisticated models include sensors which detect the degree of dirtiness in the draining water and thereby know if the dishes are clean. Dishwasher consists of three main parts which include the control mechanism, intake valve and the pump. The control mechanism is behind the control panel consisting of several units. The electromechanical functioning of the control mechanism includes a timer, water spray, detergent dispenser and draining functions. The control mechanism in some high end dish washers are computerized and features child safety locks along with the door latch which should be closed for the device to function. The dishwasher has an intake valve which draws the required water into the device. When the valve opens, a pressure is built allowing the water into the dishwasher. The pump in the unit is powered with an electric motor. The pump drives the water into the spray arms during the pump cycle and the water is directed into the drain hose during the drain cycle. The pump along with the motor is placed in the center of the device beneath the basin. There are two modes by which the pump functions. In reversible pumps, the direction of the motor is reversed to pump water to the spray arms and to pump water to the drain. In case of direct-drive mode, the water flow direction is switched from spray arms to drain through a solenoid which switches one hose connection to another or opens and closes the valves accordingly. The small basin at the bottom of the dishwasher is alone filled with water and the water is heated up to 130 to 140 degree Fahrenheit. The lower spray arm is connected to the heating element at the base while the upper spray arm which sprays water id located on the top. Dishwashers are used for both domestic and commercial purposes and the standard domestic dishwasher is 24” washer. On the whole, dishwasher is an imperative kitchen accessory reducing the household chores to a great extent. |
